Meeting to highlight KC dual credit courses

Kilgore College will offer courses at Gilmer High School on Monday and Wednesday evenings next Fall and Spring.

The courses will be open to eligible area high school students for dual credit, as well as to interested community members. An informational meeting will be held on Monday, May 12 at 6 p.m. in the Gilmer High School Auditorium.

Kilgore College applications and information on required testing will be available at the meeting.

The Fall course offerings on Monday evenings (6-8:50 p.m.) are ENGL 1301 (English Composition 1) and MUSI 1306 (Music Appreciation—fine arts credit). The Wednesday evening (6-8:50 p.m.) courses being offered are GOVT 2305 (National Government) and HIST 1301 (History of the United States to 1877).

The tentative Spring course offerings on Monday evenings (6-8:50 p.m.) are ENGL 1302 (English Composition 2) and PSYC 2301 (Introduction to Psychology) or SPCH 1315 (Public Speaking).

Course offerings on Wednesday evenings (6-8:50 p.m.) are GOVT 2306 (State and Local Government) and HIST 1302 (United State History since 1877).

Kilgore College has reduced the cost of dual credit courses for high school students.

The cost to high school students living in Upshur County will be $150 per course, plus the cost of the textbook. Regular tuition applies to adults taking courses, which is $279 per course plus the cost of the textbook.

The Fall semester beings the week of Aug. 25 and ends the week of Dec. 8. Payment deadline for the Fall semester is Aug. 13. Application and registration should be completed as soon as possible.
