GI specialist joins ETMC Gilmer clinicAmir Ahmed, MD, gastroenterologist, will be available for appointments in Gilmer, beginning in mid-July, according to East Texas Medical Center Gilmer Administrator Mike Pruitt. Dr. Ahmed will see patients every Tuesday at the ETMC First Physicians Clinic, located behind ETMC Gilmer at 711 N. Titus. As a gastroenterologist, Dr. Ahmed specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, pancreas, liver, gallbladder and biliary system. He is a graduate of the Ninewells Teaching Hospitals/University of Dundee Medical School in Dundee, Scotland, UK. Dr. Ahmed has completed a gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Medical Center. He has also spent a year doing full-time gastroenterology research at the Johns Hopkins Institutions in Baltimore, Md., where he completed his residency in internal medicine.
