Two injured in motorcycle accidents

Two Upshur County residents were injured in separate motorcycle accidents Tuesday—one near Pritchett and one in Gilmer.

Joseph Lamb, 48, of Gilmer was traveling southwest on Locust Road when he lost control of his motorcycle in a curve, and came to rest on his left side in the roadway. The accident occurred at about 5:45 a.m.

He was airflighted to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler in serious condition, the Department of Public Safety said. DPS Cpl. Jody Hammond investigated the wreck.

Sarah Ann Phillips was southbound on U.S. 271 near ETMC in Gilmer when witnesses said she pulled up behind to an 18-wheeler. She pulled into the lefthand lane as she approached the intersection with Hwy. 155.

Witnesses told investigating Gilmer Policeman Clay Gage that her brakes lock and she flipped the cycle, which landed on her. She was not wearing a helmet.

Gage said she was unconscious which witnesses lifted the BMW cycle off her. She was taken by ETMC EMS to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, where her condition was unknown Wednesday.

Gage said it is believed she suffered minor external and internal injuries.

She was cited for failure to control speed.
