Benefit golf tournament held here to raise funds for Breast Cancer 3-DayThe third annual benefit golf tournament benefiting the Breast Cancer 3-Day was held Friday, May 23, at Gilmer Country Club. The winning team shot a 66 to win for the second year in a row. The Tournament raised $12,000.00 for the Breast Cancer 3-Day accounts. The Breast Cancer 3-Day is an event held in Dallas/Ft. Worth and will take place on Nov. 7-9, beginning in Dallas and ending in Ft. Worth. Net proceeds from the Breast Cancer 3-Days (there are 11 other 3-days around the country this year) benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to fund breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs, as well as the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, to provide and endowment for breast cancer initiatives. The team of Caleb Conine, Emily Powers, Michelle Conine, Gene McLoed, Barbara O’Hara, Gayla Prater, Kent Powers and Barbie Powers will join several thousand walkers for the Dallas “Breast Cancer 3-Day” walk. Not only have they agreed to walk 60 miles over the course of 3 days, they have each committed to fundraise a minimum of $2,200.00 to help fight breast cancer. This fundraiser is of great significance, helping us raise funds for our accounts while informing others about the Breast Cancer 3-Day and, more importantly, about breast cancer says Barbie Powers.
