There were already long lines at Upshur County polling places when polls opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Upshur County Clerk Peggy LaGrone said.

“We’ve had some problems,” she said at 8 a.m. “We had one eScan (electronic voting machine) go down, and several judges were not used to the machines.”

She said that some people were showing up to vote who were not registered.

“There will be long lines today,” she predicted.

Nearly a third of the county’s some 26,000 registered voters cast early ballots.

As of Monday, the final day to accept mail-in ballots, the number voting early in person or by mail was 8,260.

Because The Mirror’s press deadline was well before the polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday, complete local election results will be in Saturday’s edition.
