MAKING AN EXTREMELY rare appearance for small venue airshows, “The Horsemen” is an aerobatic show team composed of two P-51 Mustangs. The “Horsemen”team is scheduled to fly at 3 p.m. “The P-51 Mustang is arguably the greatest fighter of all time. With its long range, superior speed, lethal weaponry and outstanding maneuverability, the Mustang proved to be unequalled as an escort fighter. It was also an outstanding interceptor and ground attacker as well as reconnaissance aircraft. The fact that the Mustang remained in service with various air forces around the world in the 1980’s is a testament to its abilities,” Ed Shipley, founder and lead pilot of the Horsemen. “We’re excited about the opportunity to help the folks in Gilmer honor the Veterans.”
