Thirty-two cadets from Gilmer High School AFJROTC recently went to Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City for a base tour.

Included in the tour were visits to Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), the military working dog facility (with a dog demonstration), the local barracks or dormitory (which are much nicer than in the past), the new gymnasium and a visit to the base fire station.

The last visit was to a B-52, where the cadets were briefed by the pilot and electronic warfare officer on the history and capabilities of this historic plane.

One of the favorite stops for the cadets is always the aerospace dining facility (“chow hall” for older guys), where the cadets helped celebrate the 61st anniversary of the Air Force.

The final stop for the group was at The Jalapeño Tree in Marshall for supper.
