Ore City festival a spectacular successCrystal blue skies greeted the visitors to the 36th annual Ore City Fun Festival Friday morning (July 4) as people gathered along Main Street to watch the beginning of a successful Fourth of July. The members of the Eastern Star won first place for their float, “Land of Liberty,” and Keith Robison captured the prize for the best-decorated vehicle with his 1962 Ford Econoline. Robison’s van had the flags of the branches of service, the Protestant flag, the POW flag, and the Stars and Stripes. Placing second in the best-decorated category was the yellow Hummer carrying Maria Arteaga, Little Miss Ore City, and third place went to Christina Perez, Miss Pre-Teen Ore City. Among antique and classic vehicles, Tommy Clegg won first with a 1967 blue Chevrolet pickup, with second going to Haskell McMillan of Linden with his 1946 Chevrolet pickup, and third to Jimmy Holt’s 1947 Ford. McMillan’s vehicle has all original equipment. Tyler Pendarvis had the best-decorated 4-wheeler. Brandon Webb placed first among the decorated bicycles, with Jonathan Billingsley second and Keaton Westmoreland third. After the opening ceremonies at the band stand, the gospel singers took over. Elsewhere, the Horseshoe Tournament continued, and the children started their contests.
